Embrace God’s extraordinary plans

Discover how God transforms lives that are surrendered to Him.

The most powerful stories of faith start with ordinary people, just like you.

In The Least of These, Scott Kvandal shares the story of God’s transformative work in his life through the founding of Su Refugio Ministries. Scott’s life changed dramatically when the Lord saved him at the age of 46. Though he was a new Christian with no ministry background, God chose to use Scott to proclaim the gospel in South America through serving widows and orphans.

Making an impact for the kingdom of Christ often begins with surrender and seeking steps of obedience, one at a time. This book invites you to discover the “what if…” moments in your life and trust God’s extraordinary plans, no matter how unqualified you may feel. May you be encouraged and inspired to consider how the Lord might be calling you to serve Him.

What readers are saying

“If you have ever wondered how someone comes up with an idea of a ministry and then goes and starts it — this book is for you. If only more Christ followers had the courage to step out when called and obey what God is putting on their hearts — more people would be blessed — the people served and the people obeying God on the great adventures he has in store for them.”

— James R. West, Co-Founder, The Barnabas Group

“It’s a beautiful story of a man coming to the end of himself and surrendering wholeheartedly his life to Christ. As a result, Su Refugio Ministries was born. This book will emotionally touch your heart, giving you a greater love for “the least of these”. It will increase your faith, prompt you to pray and challenge you to walk with Jesus in obedience.”

— Fern Nichols, Founder, Moms in Prayer International

“Psalm 107:2 says, ‘Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.’ Scott and Michelle Kvandal have honored us by telling us their story in the Least of These, and the result will encourage your heart and move you to action. Their testimony inspires us all to ask God what steps of faith He has for us and then faithfully to follow wherever He leads.”

— Beth Guckenberger, Co-Executive Director, Back2Back Ministries

“Su Refugio is the fruit of a cruciform life committed to goodness, justice, and defending the innocent (Isaiah 1:17). Through the words and images of this book, the reader is drawn into the story of broken lives being made new in the resurrection power of Christ.”

— Jonathan Rourke, Senior Pastor, Tri-City Bible Church, Vista, CA

From the author

In Psalm 77, the writer says, "I remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old" (v. 11). The psalmist continues by instructing us to "ponder all [God’s] work and meditate on [his] mighty deeds" (v. 12). Su Refugio was not built by man, but by the Lord. The Least of These documents how God developed Su Refugio in order to rescue and restore the lives of orphans and widows. It is my hope that you will read the short stories found in this book and be inspired to ponder God's goodness. I will be praying that the Lord uses these stories to lead you to serve HIM in the confidence of who HE is. He can do great things in spite of our human limitations.
